Ah good old thought crime. What goes on in the head, stays in the head. I've got plenty of fun fantasies that would get me arrested in real life. Oh that stalking through the jungle in search of female prey rape fantasy... On the somewhat related subject, the Greeks divided love into three main categories, Filias (familial/mentor), Eros (physical/lust) and Agape (spiritual/ideological). If you look at the institutionalized pederasty of the Greek golden age you find that the first type was the goal and that it was actually forbidden to a: NOT have a young charge under your wing and b: if the relationship was considered to be purely physical it was frowned upon to the level of being forbidden. Like other furs, I moved from USENET to LJ because the value proposition became better.  If 6A continues to insist on reducing the value of their product, GreatestJournal (or someplace else) will eventually have a greater value, even though LJ has the largest furry network right now.  This unrelated to Boyd's Law which refers to the accumulation of cruft on one's friends list.  It is probably related to the same phenomenon that caused the XFree86 project to go insane and think they could add a restrictive license to their free product without having their millions of existing customers decide to jump ship—which they promptly did.

However, I note that being defiant or doing nothing were not suggestions that anyone made to me when I asked. I guess that you shouldn't ask what to do if one of the choices involves taking a risk, because nobody wants to suggest a course of action that could lead to bad things happening, even if it is the right thing to do, because they don't want to be blamed if something goes wrong. That may suggest a lack of confidence on the part of those who think that the somewhat riskier course is the better one - ie: the act of making the suggestion is itself not a risk they are willing to make, and they really aren't all that bold when it comes down to it.

Well I didn't want to contradict shockwave77598 after he made the obvious suggestion (when in doubt, make everything friends-only).  But I really hate friends-only journals.  I know almost no one IRL and if someone's journal is friends-locked then I will never meet them online.  Shockwave's situation is unusual: there is basically only one employer for everyone in his field and that employer has a gigantic stick up its collective butt, so he really does need to be careful.  For the rest of us it's just fun to feel fursecuted, I guess.  Lots of websites have a "flag this post" button, but when LJ gets one it's the end of the world.

There doesn't seem to be any real downside to making posts like this one.  The worst that can happen is that I get banned.  So fucking what, it's just a website!  If they ban me, a paid-account holder, for posting something in my own journal that obviously falls under the US parody/satire exemption, then LJ will have taken an extreme turn towards authoritarianism and the furries will soon be leaving en masse, so there would have been no reason for me to stay anyway.

Someday, for some reason, LJ will no longer meet the needs of the furry fandom and we will have to move elsewhere.  Some furs still long for the days of USENET, and surely some in the post-LJ world will long for what we still have today, but life will go on and we will roll with the punches.
