Passover notes

Passover is over, so I guess I passed.

In ancient times, Passover was considered to be the beginning of the year.  New Year's was later moved to the fall, creating the new holiday of Rosh Hashanah, during which Jews are supposed to think about all the sins they committed last year against Man and doG.  I don't really celebrate Rosh Hashanah much, but I do commit significant amounts of effort to Passover (this year we drove down to Toronto to buy matzah, certified pineapple juice, chocolate bars without soybean oil, etc), so I guess this should be my sin-contemplation holiday.  Obviously I have sinned a lot this year, because comments on this journal have fallen waaaay off.  Well, not really: For Jan-Apr of 2007 I made 15 posts, receiving 64 comments; this year I've made 21 posts that received 79 comments.  But of my last 8 posts, half of them got nothing and the other half got 1-2 comments (which is basically one commenter plus my reply — hi dakhun!)  It looks like the "zit porn link" was the journal-killer.  Since I posted that, no one will talk to me anymore.  Sheesh!  Should I try a penis photo next?  A monograph on the "one-state solution" that Israel will eventually have to accept?  What Ben Stein's Expelled tells us about the Nixon administration?

Maybe I should just post elsewhere.  I shot my mouth off at Street Prophets and got 8 "cookies"!  It's too bad LJ doesn't have cookies, which is just a way of saying "thanks for writing this" without having to come up with any reply text.

Didn't Ben Stein have a comedy/quiz show wherein questions of general and specific knowledge including science were asked? Did the subject of evolution ever come up on his show, and was anyone ever penalized for answering a question on that subject correctly? I have to wonder.

It was Win Ben Stein's Money.  They generally avoided all science questions, although Stein did not get heavily into Creationism until after the show's run.  One time there was a question about law for which Ben Stein (who is a lawyer) gave the correct answer of "an information", but his answer was rejected because that's not what was written on the answer card.  This is similar to Vice President Quayle penalizing a spelling-bee student for not misspelling "potatoe" the way it was written on his card.

LJ seems to be ebbing a little. At least my previously local journals rarely update anymore. At times I find my interest waning too.

For the random topics: I think Israel will have to do a single state solution, and I instantly turn the channel by reflex when seeing Ben Stein now.

LJ has more competition today.  And they still haven't recovered from all those stupid anti-customer moves before the SUP sale.

I already posted a penis sculpture.

The problem with the one-state solution is that lots of Palestinian Arabs swore on their fathers' graves that someday Israel would once again be an "Islamic state" (as that concept is defined in the Qur'an), while there are lots of Israeli Jews who swore on their father's graves that Israel would forevermore be a Jewish-majority state.  They can't both win.  The only compromise possible is for both of them to lose, resulting in an Arab-majority Israel with a Jewish-minority government (sort of like Canada's Anglo majority with its usual French-minority government).

One can hope that Stein will "snap out of it" after Hitler Peron Amin Bush is out of office, but given that he never did repent for his role in the Nixon White House, I guess that's fairly unlikely.
