Okay, furries: how many of you look at this picture and see an octopus?

Really?  That many?  You people are freaks!!!!!!1!!one!!

It just looks like "space blob" to me.

Well, not me, because I realise that the comet is nearly directly opposite the sun from us, and that the view we have of material behind this comet is highly foreshortened.

Also, too many amateurs are weighing in on this topic. :-P This is not a typical cometary apparition at all, so the basic layman/amateur understanding that comet=coma+tail does not apply. The particles in the expanding shell of dust from the initial explosion is acting sort of like an entire shell made of tiny comets would act - most of this "tail" is material slowly being stripped from particles in the shell.

I don't see it as an octopus - I see it as a fascinating interplay of at least 4 permutations (the two different types of influence that the Sun has on the two different constituents of cometary material) in a situation much removed from what most comets exhibit.
