I'm an early adopter, for a change!  LiveJournal announced less than a day ago that they're now offering categories ("tags") for journal posts.  I would have preferred that they worked on a USENET interface, but tags are better than nothing.

So I slogged through my journal, adding tags everywhere.  Four posts couldn't be edited using the "tags" button, but I was able to tag them use the "edit post" button.  There is apparently no way to get a list of the tags someone else has used for their journal.

This useless post has been brought to you today by the letter 'Q' and the number 0, which is the number of dollars that the US government wants to spend on educational TV next year.

Very cool feature! I was hoping they'd do something like this so I could apply categories to my posts so I could create some sort of site index for my LJ.

Are the tags standardized or do you write in whatever you want? If they are user created, there should certainly be a feature for listing their tags.

And regarding the US educational TV budget, it's quite hard to make the $50 education budget cover everything. Besides, as I learned in Economics class a mere three years ago (just to show you I didn't take economics during a period when the US wasn't hemorrhaging jobs like crazy), the intelligence and skill of the US workforce makes up for the lack of funding for their educational institutions and their demand for high wages.

Of course they didn't bother to tell the class that a programmer in India is five times as skilled and works for 1/10 the pay as an American...Makes me glad I'm considering going into law, the only business Americans are guaranteed to need in the future.
